2016 03 Paper: Talomo Hydro Power Plants – Retrofitting New Technology to Century-Old Assets
Hydropower generation have changed significantly with the progress of time and with the promise of technology. Built in the 1950’s by the Philippine state run National Power Corporation, 4.47-MW Talomo Hydros post important role in the country’s history of power generation. After running for almost 50 years, Hedcor took over and operate Talomo Hydros in 2005. The plants derated capacity of 0.7 MW, aging assets, lack of
spares parts and inefficient turbines are challenges that must be overcome. To achieve the long term strategy of improving the plant performance and condition, and reducing risk, Hedcor implemented 12 years power plant rehabilitation, and upgrading. In year 2013, with the advent of new technology, Hedcor embarked on a 5 year Talomo Hydro plant automation project. This technical paper provides an overview of Talomo Hydros rehabilitation and expounds further on details of the power plant automation project.
